The brief for our English coastal bedroom was relaxed, coastal, timeless – very much in keeping with traditional English coastal design. I started with the upholstered bed, which was such a good value find and feels really sturdy. I also love that it has a low back as it sits so well against the half-height shiplap panelling that runs around the room.
From there, the rug pulled everything together with its muted tones and softness underfoot. I added stripes in the cushions and blankets to keep it feeling coastal without being too themey.
One of my favourite pieces in here has to be the vintage rattan desk – an Etsy find that I couldn’t resist. I can just picture guests sitting here on holiday, writing postcards before heading out for the day. I found a couple of similar vintage rattan lookalikes that are on Etsy at the moment!

The deconstructed linen armchair adds that easy, lived-in feel I always love, and I chose wall lights to give the room a softer, more relaxed atmosphere. The denim blue linen blind and rust throw bring just enough colour to keep things warm and layered.

Our Holiday Cottages
We have three holiday cottage rentals in West Cornwall, near to St Michaels Mount, the Minack Theatre and Lands End. All are dog-friendly.
Stamping Cottage and Tin Barn are part of a large country house in a village between St Ives and Penzance in southwest Cornwall. Both sleep two guests. Tin Barn will be ready for lettings later in the year.
