This tiny ensuite shower room sits within our Attic Apartment project, tucked under gently sloping ceilings. The room itself is a compact square measuring 165cm x 145cm, which definitely places it firmly in the very tiny bathroom ideas category.

Between the angled ceiling and the small footprint, this tiny bathroom more or less designed itself. There simply wasn’t room for multiple options. The shower head had to sit at the highest point of the ceiling, which naturally placed the shower on the wall opposite the door. The space was so tight that the basin and toilet couldn’t sit side by side, so they sit opposite each other instead.

Sometimes a small ensuite shower room decides the layout for you… And honestly, that can make the design process much simpler!

The design I’ve used could be tweaked for a narrow shower room by putting the toilet and basin side by side.

The apartment follows a Scandi country style — a relaxed mix of Scandinavian simplicity and countryside charm. Clean lines meet natural textures with soft, calm colours. The fittings are all pared back, with wall-mounted taps and concealed shower fittings built into the wall so nothing feels bulky. Everything sits within a pale, matt palette to soften the room, while texture comes in through the tile pattern to add interest. These details make a big difference, where every surface is visible. #wetroomideasforsmallwetrooms

A NEUTRAL PALETTE WITH A TON OF TEXTURE

The wall tiles are one of my favourite details. They’re laid in a random pattern using a mix of square and metro tiles in a soft ecru tone. The colour isn’t completely uniform, which gives the walls lots of gentle texture and movement. Because these tiles sit directly opposite the door, they naturally become the focal point when you walk in.

On the floor we used tiny Carrera marble penny tiles. The circular pattern is a lovely contrast to all the straight lines in the room — from the tiles to the basin and shiplap.

The remaining walls are finished with vertical shiplap — a little nod to our coastal location. We painted them in Slaked Lime by Little Greene Paint Company, which is a beautiful soft white. Changing the wall finish but keeping everything in the same colour palette adds depth to the room and helps it feel larger than if the entire space had been tiled.

Finding the basin was surprisingly tricky. Most compact sinks are either too shallow or too wide, which doesn’t work in a tiny ensuite where every centimetre matters. This slightly utilitarian rectangular basin is 500mm wide and turned out to be perfect. It’s narrow at only 370mm but still properly deep, which means you can actually fill the sink for shaving or washing your face.

The toilet is a back-to-wall design with a concealed cistern. Because we were renovating the apartment from scratch, we were able to create a pocket within the wall to house a very slimline concealed cistern. It keeps everything visually neat. We also chose a wall-hung toilet. When you can see the floor below it creates an illusion of space and makes the room feel more open — something that really matters when you’re working with very small shower room ideas.

In a tiny shower room storage is key. Either you need clever built-in storage, or you keep the number of things in the room very minimal, otherwise the space can start to feel cluttered very quickly! We built a tiny cupboard into the wall — one of those small decisions that makes a big difference. There’s just enough room for toothbrushes, toothpaste and mouthwash, which I didn’t want sitting on the basin.

There is a built in nook as you walk in to the shower to house products in a very seamless way.

We also hung a very simple white ceramic shelf. In all honesty, this was more to create a little display area to add interest rather than for actual storage needs. It’s lovely for displaying lovely perfume bottles and jars for cotton wool, cotton buds, toothpicks, etc.

The door is a half-glazed six-paned design which allows light to filter into the shower room. We added a simple bamboo roll-up blind for privacy and also I liked the idea of that natural texture sitting against the painted wood and tiles. In such a small room, every layer adds character.

I added a round mirror for the same reason. It echoes the floor tiles and keeps the space feeling a little softer and more playful.

Finally, brushed brass fittings run throughout the space. They bring in a gentle warmth which works beautifully with the soft whites and pale ecru tones, and they help the whole room feel a little richer while still staying calm and understated.

Tiny rooms like this are always a bit of a puzzle to get right… but they’re also some of the most fun. When everything slots into place, a tiny ensuite can easily become one of the most satisfying rooms to design.

The bedroom looks out onto the garden, and the house is Arts and Crafts in style. Flower pictures were a natural choice. I chose matching A4 frames with no mount to keep a more simpler look. It creates a calm but impactful vintage floral gallery wall. Letting the artwork fill the frames works well in a smaller-sized frame. The overall look is relaxed and timeless.

You can of course buy ready-to-hang vintage botanical artworks, have a look at what I found here. It is definitely more affordable to make it yourself, plus there’s a much wider choice of artwork to use. You can buy ready-made prints or download the artwork from Etsy as I did.

I spent ages looking for the perfect set. I wanted vintage flower prints framed that felt soft and decorative. The great thing with downloadable artwork is that you get multiple file sizes with clear instructions, so even if you’ve never printed art before it’s very easy to do at home. I chose a bundle with 12 prints even though I thought I might only use six — having extra options really helps when you’re playing around with layout.

If you are downloading files to print yourself, you will either need a printer or to use a print service. I am restricted by my printer as the maximum size I can print is A4, but this was a good size for this project.

COST BREAKDOWN:

I chose A4 frames with no mount so the prints filled the space cleanly and simply. I love the rustic but light wood tone. My frames worked out at £14.97 each, and I used ten in total.

I bought this set of downloadable vintage flower prints on Etsy when they were 50% off. It’s good value as you get 12 different prints for the price. See here for some more lovely options.

Double-sided matte photo paper makes the prints feel more like real artwork than standard printer paper.

I bought new printer ink so I didn’t run out halfway through printing (always worth doing!)

Frames (10 × £14.97) = £147.70
Digital vintage flower prints (12 designs) = £7.14
Double-sided matte photo paper = £11.99 for 100 sheets

Total: £166.83
(Plus printer ink)

If you don’t have a printer or want to go larger than A4 size, use an online print service to produce beautiful, large-format versions in sizes A2 and A3.

It’s definitely not a cheap project, but more than half the price of the ready-to-hang options I could find.

Choosing a larger set of prints gave me plenty of options when arranging the wall and helped me balance colours and shapes across the layout. Once printed, the artwork instantly felt like real vintage floral pictures on the wall, especially on thicker matte paper.

When planning a gallery wall, proportions make a big difference. I arranged mine into two rows of five with around an inch of space between each frame. This layout works beautifully for both a classic vintage floral wall decor inspiration look and a more modern take on a maximalist gallery wall. Work with the proportions of your room and the space you are filling to decide your layout.

If you’re unsure on sizing, cutting brown paper to the size of your frames and taping it to the wall is a great way to test spacing first. It helps you visualise exactly how your vintage floral wall art ideas will sit in the room before hanging anything. I used A4 paper and masking tape to decide on the best layout.

Creating your own wall using digital artwork is also one of the easiest ways to experiment with how to decorate with vintage floral prints. You can scale them up or down, mix different flower styles and colours, to make a collection that feels personal.

This coastal cottage bedroom scheme combines vintage, colour, patterns and coastal stripes. We’ve added a neutral rug to balance the design.

A rattan headboard brings another coastal element which would contrast beautifully with white linen bedding.

Buy two of the frilled stripe cushions and place them behind a longer French grain sack cushion. I like the introduction of the dark blue stripe on this one. I would introduce a block print cushion too, which could be on a small armchair or window seat.

A vintage chest of drawers is key in pulling together coastal cottage decor. Introducing antique or vintage items will add a more collected look and a bucket load of character and charm!

I’ve added a roman blind (or curtains, depending on the size of the window) in a soft blue stripe to introduce some colour and contrasted it with these delightful wall lights in a maroon gingham.

I chose the scalloped linen pendant light for its soft texture and warm glow. The little rattan lamp echos the rattan headboard. I would style it on the vintage pine drawers with books, photos and flowers.

I fell in love with these beautiful cottage floor tiles and knew they’d be perfect for this space as soon as I saw them. They became the jumping off point for all the colours and details. I used them in the entrance hall and then carried them through into the tiny bathroom. Using the same tiles makes the floor space feel larger.

Once I’d selected them, the whole palette shifted slightly from my original design board where I had thought I would use more green. (Here’s what the original design board looked like.)

The end result is a mix of coastal blue-greys, soft whites, browny taupes and warmer tones which feel classic, fresh and timeless.

The striped tiles in the shower add height and a playful coastal nod, while the wall-hung basin and WC keep things feeling open. I layered in a few traditional details—like polished nickel taps and a shiplapped ceiling—to balance the modern layout with a classic English cottage feel.

I wanted to layer some soul into this tiny space, so I added some antique brass details with the shell hooks and the toilet roll holder, and texture with a vintage rattan mirror.

In this post I’m sharing all the elements that brought the modern cottage bedroom together, with links so you can take a look (or recreate the look at home). It’s very much our take on a modern coastal cottage—neutral, layered, and relaxed.

My original design had more green tones – see my original design board here. I pivoted a little, keeping the palette very neutral and earthy whilst adding navy bedside tables and more blue in the accessories I’ve chosen.

A Soft Palette

Creating a calming neutral palette with Little Greene Paint Slaked Lime

Cosy Stripes

Essential for a modern cottage bedroom is mixing textured and patterned accessories – I love mixing stripes with floral! This is a great cosy striped blue/white blanket.

Modern Country Armchair

Our loose cover linen armchair is now sold out but this is a lovely loose linen cover alternative which is big enough to curl up in!

Rustic and Woven Accents

Adding texture but keeping it calm and soft underfoot with a large wool and jute rug over our engineered wood floor.

Neutral + Soft

Soft Roman blinds add an informality. I like to keep blinds either plain or use a neutral stripe. I chose a coffee/white stripe in a relaxed Roman.

Coastal Wall Lights

There’s a large window seat in Stamping Cottage’s bedroom, so I’ve added these lovely rattan wall lights to give a coastal vibe.

Adding Depth

I chose matching bedside tables/nightstands painted a dark blue/grey. The solid colour is a lovely contrast with the more washed out terracotta tones.

Textured Accessories

The perfect modern cottage lamp which is coastal and cottagey all at the same time! I have paired a terracotta base with this beautiful linen pleated lampshade.

Adding Pattern

The ceiling height is about 8 feet so I chose a semi-flush fixture. I love the textured linen and the scallops which tie in to the shape of the rattan wall lights.

I added a rattan bench at the end of the bed to be used as extra seating and storage.

Playful Textiles

A gorgeous block-print cushion in a deeper tone mirrors the nightstands. This print is by Kit Kemp and is called ‘Friendly Folk’!

A classic French Grain Sack Cushion adds a coastal vintage style element.

Cosy Bed great for adding layers

A lovely, simple bed in a great neutral oatmeal/cream colour. Add loads of texture and pattern with great bedding and blankets!

Brilliantly comfortable mattress and reassuringly firm – feels very top end!

2. Built-in Bench Storage
   I loved the idea of creating that little moment where you can sit and take off boots. Even in a tiny entrance hall, this gives it purpose and warmth. A freestanding bench might be more practical for my design as there’s no ‘nook’ available to have built-ins.
3. Soft Colour
   Soft sage walls from one image almost swayed me, but I went with warmer neutrals here to keep it light. But, adding impact with colour is a fab option for other small hallway design schemes!
4. Colourful Fabrics add Fun + Texture
   A striped or gingham door curtain adds such a fun cottage touch—cute, soft, and keeps the draughts out. It’s an example of small home entrance decor that’s both playful and functional.
5. Stylish Peg Rails
   There are so many styles of hook and peg rails. I do love the look of brass or black hooks for a traditional touch. Mixing finishes can be a great way to bring personality to small entrance halls.
6. Built-in Cubbies
   The dream setup? Loads of built-in storage to hide away all the coats, bags, and general coming-and-going clutter. But even in the tiniest entrance halls, you can usually squeeze in a cubby or two—with a row of hooks above for good measure. And don’t forget, cubbies don’t have to live at floor level! Adding storage shelves higher up the wall keeps your floor space open while still giving you a place to stash things. If built-ins aren’t an option, freestanding benches and baskets are a great flexible alternative—and they add lovely texture, too.

Cute Small Entryway Ideas

The thing I love most about cute small entryway ideas is that you can be a bit playful. A sweet little wall light. A patterned curtain. A found bench. It doesn’t take much to add a bit of charm in the tight space of a tiny entrance hall.

If you’re decorating a small entryway in your own home, I recommend focusing on:

• A consistent material palette (wood, metal, and natural fibre is my go-to).
• Dual-purpose furniture (like a bench with storage).
• One small decorative moment—like a framed print, a candle, or a quirky hook.
• Draw the eye upwards with a ship-lapped ceiling
• A small hallway is the perfect excuse to go bold with wallpaper—you’ll only need a couple of rolls, so why not choose something you absolutely love? Pick a pattern that feels fabulous and full of personality. In a space this size, it’s the wallpaper that will steal the show, not the square footage.

Stamping Cottage: My very small entrance hall ideas!

My Plan for the Entrance Hall

This small entrance hall is the first thing you see when you open the stable door at Stamping Cottage, so it needed to feel inviting and cohesive with the rest of the interiors. I started by creating a design board (above!) to pull together all the textures, tones, and practical pieces I had in mind.

Key elements include:

• Vertical tongue-and-groove wall panelling for traditional character.
• Classic black coat hooks on a rail (plus a lower row for beach bags!)
• A jute rug layered over rustic terracotta herringbone tiles for warmth and texture.
• A sweet gingham door curtain to soften the look, add some pattern and keep it cosy.
• Brass scallop shell wall lights—because I can’t resist a nod to the Cornish coast!

This is the perfect example of how small entry hallways can still feel stylish and pulled together without being overdone.

Working with a narrow entrance means thinking vertically and making sure everything has a place. A peg rail is such a classic solution, but it’s always worth it—and looks great in every style from coastal to cottage to modern country. I’ve kept the wall colour light and bright to open things up, while the terracotta flooring anchors the space and hides any muddy footprints from Cornish garden strolls.

Long narrow hallway ideas sometimes call for mirrors or dramatic runners, but in this space, I went for tactile simplicity: natural fibre textures, warm floor tiles, and small, well-placed lighting to focus your eye on the details.

Designing a Tiny Shower Room with Big Style

I love the challenge of working with small spaces. There’s something so satisfying about making every inch count while keeping the design beautiful and uncluttered. In this cottage modern bathroom, I wanted to create a space that felt fresh, fun, and a little bit coastal—without straying too far from the timeless English cottage aesthetic.

1. A Shiplapped Ceiling for a Coastal Touch

One of the first things I decided to do was shiplap the ceiling. Why? Because small rooms can sometimes feel a bit boxy, and adding ceiling paneling creates visual interest while subtly drawing the eye upward. It also brings in a slight coastal element, which fits beautifully with Stamping Cottage’s Cornish setting.

The soft white vertical shiplap walls complement the ceiling, giving the space a relaxed yet structured look. This kind of detailing is a great way to add depth to a small bathroom without overwhelming it.

2. The Colour Palette – Soft Greens & Warm Neutrals

I’m a big believer that colour sets the mood, and for a small space, it’s especially important. I wanted the bathroom to feel light, airy, and fresh while still being warm and inviting.

I chose soft sage green tiles for a fresh yet classic look. Green is the perfect choice for a modern cottage core bathroom because it’s both calming and timeless—exactly what you want in a holiday retreat. We’ve created a vertical stripe with a milky white tile by stacking them vertically and alternating the colours. Stripes feel good in this space, they add a bold pattern and are a great nod to coastal design.

To balance it out, I paired the green with white vertical panelling on the other walls. It keeps the space feeling open while adding a touch of vintage charm.

3. The Shower – A Statement Feature

A small shower room doesn’t have to be boring! I decided to make a statement with vertical green tiles, creating a subtle striped effect that elongates the space. The polished nickel fixtures keep things feeling classic, and I opted for separate hot and cold taps as a nod to traditional English cottage bathrooms.

4. Vintage & Modern Mix – The Sink & Mirror

One of my favorite features? The wall-mounted sink, which feels both vintage and modern at the same time. It’s small but stylish—perfect for a compact space. I particularly like that it has a raised back.

Above it, I chose a round mirror with a striped green and white trim, tying in the colors from the shower tiles. It adds just enough pattern without overwhelming the room.

5. Natural Textures & Finishing Touches

No cottage bathroom is complete without some natural materials to soften things up. I brought in a woven basket for storage (practical but pretty!), warm-toned terracotta tiles for the floor, and brass lighting to add a soft, golden glow in the evenings and to bring in a vintage touch.

This mix of materials is what makes a modern cottage interior bathroom feel special—it’s all about blending clean lines with rustic textures, balancing function with charm.

Making a Small Space Feel Luxurious

Even though this is a tiny shower room, I wanted it to feel just as special as the rest of Stamping Cottage. A well-designed small bathroom can feel just as indulgent as a larger space, and it’s all about the little details. Here are a few ways I made this space feel bigger and brighter:

• Shiplap panelling: The vertical lines naturally elongate the walls and the panelled ceiling draws the eye upwards.
• Large mirror: Reflects light and makes the space feel twice as big.
• Wall-mounted sink: Keeps the floor visible, which creates an illusion of more space.
• Light colour palette: Greens, whites, and warm neutrals keep things feeling airy and open.

It’s proof that even the smallest bathrooms can have a big impact!
