bathroom inspiration ‘warm, classic + coastal’
We used ‘warm, classic and coastal’ as our bathroom inspiration for our small bathroom at The Georgian Flat. The bathroom measures approximately 1.9 x 1.6. It has cold, Northerly light and was in serious need of a glow-up! I wanted it to feel cosy and luxurious whilst having a nod to our coastal location. I was nervous about removing our only bath, but I felt as The Georgian Flat is an Airbnb, it would be more practical to have a lovely large shower. I am so glad we made this change! It has helped make the bathroom feel much more spacious, and it’s so nice to have a big hot shower to wash the sand away after a day on the beach. I am thrilled with how it turned out!

The antique merchant’s chest was a very lucky find at a local antique shop. This old chest was major bathroom inspo for the rest of the room! It has its original marble top, which adds so much character. The washed old pine feels very coastal, and I love the inset brass pull handles with all their patina. My carpenter did have to cut the backs of the top drawers to accommodate pipework and they are still functional for storage for towels and toiletries.
Oval Countertop Basin
This is a very close match to our Countertop Basin. I left enough room on either side of the basin for toiletries, soap, etc. My basin measures 56cm x 36cm.
Traditional Towel Rail
I love the classic look of a Traditional Towel Rail. This one fits our space perfectly!
Wall Mounted Taps
I chose cross taps in chrome which look simple and classic. These Chrome Wall Taps are very similar.
bathroom tile inspiration
We chose a classic coastal horizontal shiplap to add character to the walls. We used a Coat Paints colour called Nada, a pure white with warm, creamy undertones.
The large marble tiles in the shower enclosure are by Mandarin Stone. They are in a classic stack pattern.
The Marble Scallop tiles are the icing on the cake of this bathroom. The shape is a perfect foil for this room’s straight lines. The scallop edge is so pretty, and of course, being by the sea, it feels so appropriate!
This Ceramic Encaustic Type Patterned Tile adds so much character to the bathroom. The Georgian Flat was built around 1811 and I love that this pattern was reproduced from around the same period.
Coat Paints Nada Eggshell
We painted the shiplap with a White Paint called ‘Nada’ by Coat Paints. Remember to sample paint colours on your wall as the light in your room will differ from ours.
bathroom decor inspiration
We mixed metals in this bathroom for a more evolved and timeless look. The bathroom hardware, taps, shower, and towel rail are polished chrome. We then added warmer metals with an antique brass framed mirror and hanging towel rack. Accessories made from rattan with brass touches and walnut-toned dark picture frames tie this look together.
Round Brass Mirror
I’ve had this bevelled mirror with its antiqued brass frame for a long time. I’ve sourced an almost identical one here. For reference, mine is 80cm in diameter.
Pictures
Lovely greyscale coastal watercolours give the Ralph Lauren / Nancy Meyers look! I thrifted the picture frames and just replaced the pictures.
Both of the pictures are printables from Etsy. I printed them on my printer using this watercolour paper from Amazon.

Ceramic + Chrome Wall Lights
These Ceramic Wall Lights provide a perfect warm, flattering glow. I love how the round base plate echos the mirror too.
Hanging Towel Rack
This Wall-Hanging Brass Towel Rack gives this corner some much-needed height. The colour is more of a bronze but I love it!
Window Treatment
We used this Roman Blind plus a Cafe Curtain to add a soft texture, which is always lovely in a bathroom where there are so many cold, hard surfaces. See this post, ‘How to Make Cafe Curtains like ours’, for all the sources.
Towels with Stripe Border
Our towels from the White Company have been discontinued, but these Cotton Bath Towels with a Striped Border look similar!
Rattan Vase
I used this Drinking Glass with a Rattan Cover as a vase. It would also be lovely to hold cotton buds or toothpaste!
Clear Storage Containers
Clear jars are the most useful bathroom storage. This Set of 3 Acrylic Storage Jars is a great find for the bathroom. I love the lids!
The Georgian Flat is one of three beautiful Holiday Cottages we have in Cornwall!
