There’s something so nostalgic about dressing the mantle for Christmas — it’s the heart of the room and always feels like the start of the season once it’s done. Even though I’ve rounded up lots of lovely options below, my biggest tip is to keep it simple. Begin by clearing away your usual photos and decor (they can have a January comeback!) and start with a base of greenery — either fresh or faux. A garland looks beautiful draped loosely across the top, or swooping slightly down one side for a relaxed, asymmetric look. Fairy lights woven through the foliage instantly add a warm, festive glow.

Pick one or two shapes — stars, trees, or little houses — rather than trying to use everything together. A couple of matching pieces in different sizes, paired with a different shape in a contrasting texture, always feels intentional. Candlesticks are a must; they’ll make the whole look feel softer and more traditional (I’ve linked some LED versions below). Stockings don’t need to match, but try to coordinate textures — all velvet or all linen works beautifully. Finish with a few twinkling lights, maybe a berry or metal garland, and you’ll have a mantle that feels festive and intentional.
