A plug in wall light is wired with a cable, plug and an in-line switch so it can be plugged into a socket without the need for hard wiring. I have put several up in my flat, and it’s easy to do. They come with a backplate which usually takes only 2 or 3 screws to attach. You may need to screw them into a rawlplug depending on your wall depth and material. Most are lightweight, so they won’t require heavy-duty fixings.

I have placed plug-in wall lights about 5 feet (160cm) from the floor, although there’s no real hard and fast rule. If you want wall lights higher up the wall or for lighting pictures, rechargeable wall lights which don’t have cables may be a better option.

Plug in wall lights are great for reading lights next to your bed, ensure they are near enough to use the switch easily but not so close that they clonk you on the head! This will all depend on the height and width of your bed. Similarly, use them to light up a reading nook or corner of your living space.

Plug in wall lights add an extra layer to your lighting scheme. Use them to light up a reading nook, as bedside lamps or for adding a cosy glow to an entrance hall.

1. I found it hard to find a plug in wall light in silver, most of the nice ones seem to be brass. This Silver Adjustable Wall Light is a great tone and has a great coastal look. A great budget price too!
2. This lamp is great for space saving because it folds in against the wall. I chose the Rattan Shade to go with the Brass Fitting but there are lots of shade options. The shade is adjustable too!
3. A great reading lamp for a living space as it folds back when not in use. A Brass fitting with super nice Denim Tie-dye Shade.
4. Theselovely Brass Scallop Shaded Wall Lights are now available as a plug-in wall light. They look adorable next to a bed in a coastal home.

6. I love the vintage charm of this Cottage Plug-in Wall Light in a great creamy white.
7. A lovely budget rattan plug in wall light with a pretty scalloped fitting.
8. White Directional Plug-in Wall Light – such a great option alongside a traditional table lamp for a hotel vibe.
9. This Bobble Plug-in Wall Light in Rubberwood is my favourite! Not least because it is paintable. Great for a children’s room – paint it a fab blue or red and at this price you could change the shade too to something with more oomph!
10. In a Lovely Statement Size and with a Rattan Shade – great for a coastal or Scandi living space.
11. Brass with a warm wood shade for a super natural rustic look!
12. A very pretty Beige Wall Lamp with a little Brass Switch nice for next to a bed and definitely giving a cottage core aesthetic!
13. This gorgeous Soft Bubble Plug-in Wall Light is a classic. It’s neutral and I love the addition of a fun Red Flex. (The flex comes in other colours too – Turquoise, Yellow, Green.)

Brass is a lovely material for wall lights, elevating your lighting scheme and adding warmth and a classic look. Here are 12 of my favourite brass wall light ideas from budget to luxe!

I love to layer wall lights into our lighting schemes. It’s best to use a dimmer switch with them so that they provide a lovely soft ambience. I rarely have the ‘big’ light on in a room and opt for lamps and wall lights to give that warm layered glow. These wall lighting ideas are for a bedroom, living room or hallway. 2. A really well-priced vintage-look Double Wall Light with Linen Shades which would be great for a larger living room.
3. I love the slightly Art Deco look of this oval shape with this gorgeous linen shade.
4. This Niche Wall Light in Antique Brass gives a welcome luxury hotel vibe! A great directional reading light for next to the bed; it leaves room for statement bedside table lamps.
5. I love this shape and the gingham-checked shade with the brass border.
6. A fabulous budget option and complete with linen shade in a lovely grey/buff colour. The Enid Wall Light isn’t dimmable so use a lower-wattage bulb.
7. I have the sweetly named Twinky Wall Light in the cabin bedroom at The Georgian Flat. I love the scalloped brass shades. They are another rechargeable option that doesn’t require an electrician and are dimmable too! (see pictures below)
8. An adjustable Wall Light with a slightly industrial look. I love both the Brass and the Nickel versions.
9. A long-hooded Brass Wall Light, great used over kitchen shelves or in a hallway.
10. This Clever Wall Light folds back out of the way against the wall. Perfect as an extendable bedside reading light or next to an armchair in the living room. 
11. The largest Wall Light here, it’s fully adjustable and makes a fab statement light.
12. The cutest Shell Scallop Wall Light in brass. We’ve used these in the hallway in our coastal Airbnb Stamping Cottage. They’re beautiful and I love the diffused light they give.
