Cornwall outfits – the base layer!

To make it simple, I’ve started with a base outfit that works in almost any weather… which is always a good thing in Cornwall (lol). White jeans and a classic white T-shirt create the starting point. Add a great belt, a scarf, a raffia bag and a pair of gorgeous flats and suddenly it feels like a proper Cornwall outfit.

Throw on a denim shirt and everything still works perfectly. Layer a couple of gold necklaces, pull on gingham socks for a pop of colour, or carry a huge striped beach bag and you’ve instantly created a whole collection of Cornwall outfit ideas from the same base.

The chunky fisherman’s cardigan changes the look again. Worn over just the T-shirt it keeps the outfit soft and monotone. Layered over the denim shirt it suddenly feels slightly fisherwoman chic, which is very much the Cornwall aesthetic. Right in the heart of Penzance Cornwall on Causeway Head, Zennor Wild Café is the kind of place that makes you want to stay all morning. With its gorgeous mix of café, homewares, and fresh British-grown flowers, it has a relaxed, stylish vibe that feels effortlessly cool.

Now, let’s talk about the food! I highly recommend their smoothies—fresh, vibrant, and packed with flavour. The Date and Banana smoothie is particularly dreamy. I f you’re after something more substantial, their granola bowl is an absolute winner. It’s beautifully presented, loaded with fresh fruit, and perfectly balanced between crunchy and creamy. Everything here is thoughtfully put together, from the food to lovely interior dotted with vases of flowers. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to snap a few photos before you dig in (and trust me, you’ll want to!)

The Cornish Barn – A Rustic, Laid-Back Breakfast Vibe

If you love a bit of rustic charm with your breakfast, The Cornish Barn is the place to be. Located in the heart of Penzance, this cosy eatery is part of the Artist Residence Hotel and offers a breakfast menu that’s all about hearty, well-cooked food.

The Full Cornish breakfast here is legendary – packed with thick-cut bacon, Cornish sausages, eggs any way you like, and all the traditional trimmings. But if you fancy something lighter, their smashed avocado on toast with dukkah and chili oil is a winner. Also, their coffee game is seriously strong.

The Honey Pot – A Cosy Classic

The Honey Pot is one of those cafés that just makes you feel at home. It’s warm, welcoming, and serves up some of the best breakfasts Penzance has to offer.

I love their Full Cornish breakfast, but their pancakes with fresh berries and honeycomb butter are an absolute dream. They also serve up some of the best cakes in town – so if you fancy a second breakfast (I won’t judge), you’re in the right place.

45 Queen St – warehouse cool in the middle of town

Tucked away up a little alleyway off Chapel Street in Penzance Cornwall, 45 Queen St brings an effortlessly cool warehouse vibe to the breakfast scene. With its high ceilings, exposed brick, and laid-back atmosphere, it’s the kind of place where you can settle in with a great coffee and watch the world go by.

The breakfast menu is just as stylish as the setting. Whether you’re after a classic bacon bap or something a little more refined like their avocado on sourdough with poached eggs, everything is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Their pastries are also top-notch, perfect for a quick bite if you’re on the go. If you love good food in a trendy, relaxed space, 45 Queen St is definitely worth a visit.

Jubilee Pool Café – Breakfast by the Sea

If you love the idea of breakfast with a sea view, then the Jubilee Pool Café is an absolute must-visit. Right next to the famous Art Deco seawater lido, this café serves up a relaxed, beachy vibe along with some seriously tasty food.

Their breakfast menu is fresh, seasonal, and full of locally sourced goodness. My son loves their smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on sourdough—it’s simple but perfectly done. If you’re after something sweet, their pastries are some of the best in town, and the coffee is always spot-on. There are tables inside the café but if it’s dry, sit outside with a flat white in hand, looking out to sea! That’s my kind of perfect morning.

Tremenheere Kitchen – Breakfast with a View

Tucked away in the lush surroundings of Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, Tremenheere Kitchen is my go-to for a breakfast that feels like a mini getaway. The huge windows flood the space with light, and if you grab a seat outside, you’ll be treated to stunning views of St Michael’s Mount.

Their breakfast menu is all about quality ingredients and simple, delicious combinations. Think thick-cut bacon and poached eggs on sourdough, or a perfectly cooked Full Cornish breakfast. If you have a sweet tooth, their homemade granola with yogurt and fresh fruit is divine. Plus, the coffee? Absolutely spot on. Gulval is less than ten minutes by car from the centre of Penzance Cornwall.

Duke Street Café, Newlyn – A Local Favourite

Just a short walk along the promenade from Penzance is the picturesque fishing village of Newlyn. Duke Street Café is a true hidden gem. If you’re looking for a proper, no-fuss, delicious breakfast in a welcoming cosy spot, this is it.

Their breakfast menu is packed with crowd-pleasers, from fluffy pancakes to indulgent eggs benedict. Their vegetarian breakfast is one of the best I’ve had, with halloumi, smashed avocado, and roasted tomatoes. And the best part? It’s all made with super fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

Jordan’s Café – Beachside Breakfast Bliss

For a proper beachside breakfast, Jordan’s Café between Long Rock and Marazion is a must. This little gem is right on coastal path, steps from the beach, in the car park with a fab view of St Michael’s Mount. It’s the perfect place to fuel up before a seaside stroll.

Their breakfast French bread sandwiches are the stuff of legend—crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, and absolutely packed with delicious fillings. Whether you go for bacon, egg, sausage, or a combination of all three, add a hash brown and you won’t be disappointed! The coffee from the local company, Yallah Coffee is excellent too. If the weather’s dry, I highly recommend grabbing a takeaway and enjoying your breakfast right on the beach with unbeatable views of the Mount. Pure bliss.

So, after extensive (and very delicious) research, I can confidently say that Penzance is home to some seriously amazing breakfast spots. Whether you want a classic Full Cornish breakfast, something healthy and fresh, or a breakfast with a view, there’s a perfect place for you.

If I had to choose? That’s impossible. Each of these cafés and restaurants Penzance has to offer brings something unique to the table, and I recommend trying them all! Stamping Cottage itself is a one-bedroom bijou retreat available for holiday lets, tucked away in the Cornish countryside between Penzance and St Ives. You can read all about the cosy bedroom in my post: Modern Cottage Bedroom – A Cozy Retreat at Stamping Cottage, but today, we’re focusing on the shower room—a small but mighty space that captures the essence of a modern English cottage bathroom.

Designing a Tiny Shower Room with Big Style

I love the challenge of working with small spaces. There’s something so satisfying about making every inch count while keeping the design beautiful and uncluttered. In this cottage modern bathroom, I wanted to create a space that felt fresh, fun, and a little bit coastal—without straying too far from the timeless English cottage aesthetic.

1. A Shiplapped Ceiling for a Coastal Touch

One of the first things I decided to do was shiplap the ceiling. Why? Because small rooms can sometimes feel a bit boxy, and adding ceiling paneling creates visual interest while subtly drawing the eye upward. It also brings in a slight coastal element, which fits beautifully with Stamping Cottage’s Cornish setting.

The soft white vertical shiplap walls complement the ceiling, giving the space a relaxed yet structured look. This kind of detailing is a great way to add depth to a small bathroom without overwhelming it.

2. The Colour Palette – Soft Greens & Warm Neutrals

I’m a big believer that colour sets the mood, and for a small space, it’s especially important. I wanted the bathroom to feel light, airy, and fresh while still being warm and inviting.

I chose soft sage green tiles for a fresh yet classic look. Green is the perfect choice for a modern cottage core bathroom because it’s both calming and timeless—exactly what you want in a holiday retreat. We’ve created a vertical stripe with a milky white tile by stacking them vertically and alternating the colours. Stripes feel good in this space, they add a bold pattern and are a great nod to coastal design.

To balance it out, I paired the green with white vertical panelling on the other walls. It keeps the space feeling open while adding a touch of vintage charm.

3. The Shower – A Statement Feature

A small shower room doesn’t have to be boring! I decided to make a statement with vertical green tiles, creating a subtle striped effect that elongates the space. The polished nickel fixtures keep things feeling classic, and I opted for separate hot and cold taps as a nod to traditional English cottage bathrooms.

4. Vintage & Modern Mix – The Sink & Mirror

One of my favorite features? The wall-mounted sink, which feels both vintage and modern at the same time. It’s small but stylish—perfect for a compact space. I particularly like that it has a raised back.

Above it, I chose a round mirror with a striped green and white trim, tying in the colors from the shower tiles. It adds just enough pattern without overwhelming the room.

5. Natural Textures & Finishing Touches

No cottage bathroom is complete without some natural materials to soften things up. I brought in a woven basket for storage (practical but pretty!), warm-toned terracotta tiles for the floor, and brass lighting to add a soft, golden glow in the evenings and to bring in a vintage touch.

This mix of materials is what makes a modern cottage interior bathroom feel special—it’s all about blending clean lines with rustic textures, balancing function with charm.

Making a Small Space Feel Luxurious

Even though this is a tiny shower room, I wanted it to feel just as special as the rest of Stamping Cottage. A well-designed small bathroom can feel just as indulgent as a larger space, and it’s all about the little details. Here are a few ways I made this space feel bigger and brighter:

• Shiplap panelling: The vertical lines naturally elongate the walls and the panelled ceiling draws the eye upwards.
• Large mirror: Reflects light and makes the space feel twice as big.
• Wall-mounted sink: Keeps the floor visible, which creates an illusion of more space.
• Light colour palette: Greens, whites, and warm neutrals keep things feeling airy and open.

It’s proof that even the smallest bathrooms can have a big impact!

Visiting the wineries in Cornwall is one of my favourite things to do—there’s something so special about sipping award-winning wine while surrounded by stunning vineyard views and the coastal charm of this beautiful place. It really gives you that true holiday feeling!

Cornwall isn’t just a place of stunning beaches and beautiful coastal views—it’s quickly becoming a top destination for wine lovers.

With its temperate climate, south-facing slopes, and proximity to the sea, Cornwall produces some truly exceptional wines, from the best sparkling to crisp whites and refreshing rosés. Since Cornwall planted its first vineyard in 1978, the region now boasts eight vineyards, each offering its own unique experience for wine enthusiasts.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the top vineyards that should be on your list:

1. Camel Valley Vineyard

Located in the rolling hills of North Cornwall, near to Bodmin, Camel Valley Vineyard is one of the most famous wineries in the region. Known for its award-winning wines, Camel Valley offers a selection of wines including their sparkling wines, rosé wines, and crisp white wines.

The vineyard is set in an ideal location, with breathtaking views of the Bodmin Moor, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing winery visit. There is a lovely terrace overlooking the grape vineyard where you can have wine by the glass.

Their guided tours are a great way to learn about the winemaking process and the soil type that makes Camel Valley’s wines so special. Be sure to check out their Grand Tour, which delves deeper into the winemaking process and gives you a behind-the-scenes look at this working winery. And, of course, you can taste their wines—whether you prefer a light rosé or a rich sparkling wine, Camel Valley has something for everyone.

Their sparkling wines, in particular, have earned multiple awards at the National English Wine Competition and internationally, solidifying Camel Valley’s reputation as an award-winning vineyard. The winery is also a great spot to visit if you’re part of larger groups looking to enjoy a Cornish wine tour. If you are bringing children, book the morning tour, which lasts for about forty-five minutes.

Booking is essential for wine on the terrace and their tours. Note that Camel Valley is not open at the weekends.

Camel Valley Vineyard – Great for views and location, very organised, year-round, and relaxing for a lovely afternoon with friends.

2. Trevibban Mill

Trevibban Mill is another fantastic vineyard in Cornwall, set in the heart of the Cornish countryside near to Padstow. With its south-facing slopes and acres of vineyards, Trevibban Mill is committed to organic farming and produces a range of award-winning wines, including rosé wines, sparkling wines, and white wines.

A guided Wine Tour lasts approximately an hour to an hour and a half. This tour takes you through the vineyards and the surrounding countryside and is led by one of the owners or a family member of the estate and is followed by a tutored tasting of 5 selected wines.

Alternatively, you can do a guided Wine or Cider Tasting lasting for about an hour.

Both tours can be followed by lunch in the form of lovely sharing boards of hummus and charcuterie.

Dog-Friendly: Trevibban Mill is a dog-friendly vineyard, and they welcome dogs on leads on their tours. Guide dogs welcome.

Trevibban Mill – Great for a relaxing yet informative experience!

Very accommodating for children of all ages (highchairs provided!). Food is casual, with delicious sharing and grazing boards. Great for a light lunch with gorgeous views.

Dogs allowed. Tours are available from February to December.

3. Polgoon Vineyard

As a local, I have to mention Polgoon Vineyard as one of best wineries in Cornwall! Located in England’s most westerly vineyard, just a short walk from my Airbnb, The Georgian Flat in Penzance. Polgoon offers a fantastic experience for wine lovers. The vineyard’s south-facing slopes provide the perfect conditions for growing a variety of wines, including rosé wines, white wines, and sparkling varieties.

Polgoon offers both guided and private tours, where you can explore the vineyard, have a look at their wine room and learn about the grape varieties, including Seyval Blanc, Pinot Noir, and other varieties that thrive in Cornwall’s climate.

Guided tours last around 90 minutes and include a guided tasting of different award-winning wines. You can book a table for when your tour ends. There is a lovely outside patio with a pergola and vines in addition to indoor seating! Dining is casual with wood fired pizzas and cheese boards (which I highly recommend).

Summer and winter tours vary slightly. Private tours should be booked well in advance. Self-guided tours of the wine farm last 30 minutes and are especially good if you have kids in tow, as you can walk around at your own pace.

Polgoon also has a lovely onsite deli and an online shop where you can buy their wines, ciders, juices and other locally sourced gifts. The café is a great spot for a coffee too, with plenty of parking and beautiful woodland walks nearby!

Dog-Friendly: Polgoon is dog-friendly, and dogs on leads are welcome on the vineyard tours. Whether you’re bringing your furry friend for a stroll around the vineyard or just to enjoy the fresh air, Polgoon is a great spot for dogs and their owners. Guide dogs welcome.

Polgoon Vineyard – Great for families, informal and relaxed, dogs allowed, year-round, children welcome.

Food is casual and the pizzas are delicious!

4. Knightor Winery

Not far from St Austell, Knightor Winery is known for its traditional method sparkling wines and exquisite rosé wines. The vineyard is located on the south-facing slopes, offering spectacular views of the surrounding Cornish countryside.

Their guided wine grand tour takes place once a week and lasts about an hour. It offers a detailed look into the winemaking process, from vine to bottle, and is perfect for wine lovers who want to dive deep into the art of wine production.

Knightor Winery also hosts Cornish wine tastings, both guided and self-guided, in their winery shop. These last for about forty-five minutes and make a great aperitif before having lunch at the restaurant!

For a unique activity, try the Cornish Cocktail experience, which lasts for about ninety minutes. This would be great for a birthday or special event. Bookings are available for larger parties.

In addition to wine tastings, they host a variety of events throughout the year, including feast nights and supper clubs. Lunch is available on Sundays only.

Located near to Liskeard, in the beautiful East Looe Valley in south-east Cornwall, Looe Valley Vineyard is a family-run vineyard that offers a more intimate wine-tasting experience. Known for its excellent white and rosé wines, Looe Valley is perfect for a private tour where you can learn all about their wine production while taking in the picturesque surroundings.

The vineyard tours offer insights into the grape varieties, winemaking process, and the unique conditions of this vineyard. After the tour, head to their sun terrace for a glass of wine and enjoy the peaceful beauty of the valley.

Penzance, Cornwall – where to stay

Our lovely three bedroom Airbnb sleeps five (plus a four-legged friend!) and is on a quiet private road in the centre of Penzance. The Georgian Flat is the lower ground floor apartment of a lovely Georgian house and is less than ten minute walk from the train/bus station.

If you are travelling from London or the South East I would urge you to arrive on the Night Riviera Sleeper Train from Paddington – it is the most romantic way to arrive in Penzance! Book a sleeping compartment and they bring you breakfast in bed in the morning! You can also have a shower in the Sleeper Train Lounge at Penzance before you explore.

public transport + taxis

Unlike some Cornish destinations, Penzance has great public transport links. The bus station is next to the train station by the harbour with regular buses to St Ives, Mousehole, Porthcurno (The Minack Theatre) and Lands End. There is also a regular train service to St Ives (via St Erth).

There are several taxi companies, and taxis also wait at the taxi rank at the train station at most times of the day (I would book ahead to be sure of a ride!).

You don’t need a car for a holiday in Penzance Cornwall. It would be more of a hindrance if you are planning on using Penzance as a base to visit places like Mousehole or St Ives, particularly in the peak season when parking is expensive and difficult to find. Even if you do bring your car, I would still recommend using public transport to visit these places in the Summer months.

e-bike scheme

Penzance has an emission-free E-bike scheme called Beryl Bikes with their bike bays throughout the town and as far as Mousehole in one direction and Marazion in the other. They are a fab way to get about and I especially love the traffic-free cycle path next to the beach between Penzance and Marazion. Cycling beside the sea is one of my favourite things to do in Cornwall. All the details are here.

walking distances

Penzance is very walkable if a little hilly in the town itself. The walk along the coastal path starting at the train station to Marazion and St Michael’s Mount is easy and flat, about 3.5 miles and very scenic. (There are even a couple of cafes at the halfway point!)

Newlyn is about a half hour’s walk (a mile and a half) from Penzance along the Prom where you will find Newlyn Art Gallery and several great places to eat.

Penzance is popular and events get sold out quickly. It’s always a good idea to plan ahead so you have the best time possible! Check the opening times especially out of season. Booking in advance is essential for the following:

Day 1: Exploring the Best of Penzance, Cornwall

Morning: get your bearings + see the sea!

Take an often bracing walk along Penzance Promenade, one of the best things to do in Cornwall, with stunning views of Mount’s Bay.

Book a swim at the Jubilee Pool, the UK’s largest seawater lido or try the much warmer Geothermal Pool. There is also a sauna you can book to warm up in afterwards!

Have a lovely coffee and breakfast in the Jubilee Pool Cafe.

If swimming isn’t your thing, book a Wildlife Boat Trip which leaves from the Quay round the corner from the Jubilee Pool. A two-hour trip will take you either easterly towards St Michael’s Mount or westerly to Porthcurno to see the amazing Minack Theatre from the sea.

afternoon: a fishy lunch and some culture!

From the Jubilee Pool, walk to Newlyn, Cornwall, along the Prom (about 20 minutes) for a delicious lunch at Mackerel Sky Seafood Bar (there will be a queue of people waiting as you can’t book but it will be worth it!)

Treat yourself to Cornish ice cream from Jelberts in Newlyn (famous for its simple but delicious vanilla ice cream).

After lunch, wander back to Penzance and visit Penlee House Gallery & Museum in Penlee Park and admire their Art Collections from the Newlyn School.

You could also squeeze in a cake and a cup of tea at the adjoining Orangery Cafe, which is a peaceful place to sit on a dry day.

Wander into Penzance town via Morrab Place (with its gorgeous Georgian houses) and walk down Chapel Street. This is Penzance’s most historic street and has some lovely independent shops, antiques, and landmarks like The Egyptian House.

Stop for a drink at The Admiral Benbow, a historic pub full of maritime artifacts and pirate history.

EVENING: DRINKS AND FINE DINING

As you’ve done quite a lot of walking around this afternoon, eat in Penzance tonight!

Early evening drinks are fun at 45 Queen St or walk a little further down Chapel Street to the Artist’s Residence Hotel. You can drink at the bar here or head outside to their outside patio for cocktails. Both places have lovely menus and surroundings for dinner.

For fine dining eat at The Shore, which is a short stroll from The Georgian Flat.

Day 2: Adventure & a Fairy Tale Castle

Morning: eat well and stretch your legs!

Have an early breakfast at the lovely Honey Pot Cafe in the centre of town.

Walk down Market Jew Street towards the Train Station and pick up a Cornish Pasty from the Mounts Bay Pasty Company to have on the beach later on!

Hire a Beryl E-Bike, walk or take a taxi along the South West Coast path to St Michael’s Mount in Marazion.

I would recommend the first two options! The Coastal path starts just in front of the Railway Station and runs parallel to the sea and beach to Marazion.

About two thirds of the way along, at Longrock, have a break at either the Hoxton Special on the beach or Jordans Cafe a little further along in the carpark.

The beach here is one of the nicest Cornwall beaches for a sea swim if the tide and conditions allow.

afternoon: island magic and a cornish cream tea

Continue to Marazion where you can walk across to St Michael’s Mount at low tide across the cobbled causeway. At other times, it is a 5 minute boat trip which you can book here.

Explore the historic castle, gardens and medieval village and enjoy your Cornish Pasty!

You can have a Cornish Cream tea at the Island Cafe on the island itself, or go to the Godolphin hotel opposite the Mount, in Marazion.

Before returning to Penzance, nip in to Roly’s Fudge Pantry to buy some Cornish Fudge to take home with you.

There is a regular bus service back to Penzance which takes about 15 minutes.

EVENING: a peaceful waterfront restaurant

After your active day, take a taxi to the lovely Argoe Restaurant in Newlyn. Depending on the time of year, try to book the outside terrace!

Enjoy one last moonlit walk on the Prom on your way home!
