There’s something so nostalgic about dressing the mantle for Christmas — it’s the heart of the room and always feels like the start of the season once it’s done. Even though I’ve rounded up lots of lovely options below, my biggest tip is to keep it simple. Begin by clearing away your usual photos and decor (they can have a January comeback!) and start with a base of greenery — either fresh or faux. A garland looks beautiful draped loosely across the top, or swooping slightly down one side for a relaxed, asymmetric look. Fairy lights woven through the foliage instantly add a warm, festive glow.

Pick one or two shapes — stars, trees, or little houses — rather than trying to use everything together. A couple of matching pieces in different sizes, paired with a different shape in a contrasting texture, always feels intentional. Candlesticks are a must; they’ll make the whole look feel softer and more traditional (I’ve linked some LED versions below). Stockings don’t need to match, but try to coordinate textures — all velvet or all linen works beautifully. Finish with a few twinkling lights, maybe a berry or metal garland, and you’ll have a mantle that feels festive and intentional.

There’s nothing quite like the real thing — the scent of pine as you wrestle it through the front door, the ritual of choosing the tree, needles everywhere but worth it for the nostalgia alone. But while I’ll always love a real tree, there’s a lot to be said for a good faux one too. From perfectly shaped branches to snow-tipped finishes and pre-lit options that save a tangle of wires, artificial trees have come a long way — and they can look beautifully realistic if you choose well.

I loved my slim faux tree from when we really didn’t have the room for anything larger in our old flat (below left) and are little tabletop artificial christmas tree in our interiors shop (below right).

I’ve rounded up ten of the best on the market this year — from petite tabletop sizes to full, snow-flocked statement trees. To elevate the look even further, don’t forget the base: a rattan tree skirt instantly makes it feel more polished, and for smaller trees I love using a woven basket or even a metal bucket for a slightly French, gathered-together feel. snowy scandi simplicity

Inspired by a Swedish Christmas! Keep it simple with natural materials, clip-on candles, stars and white baubles on a looser branched more minimal tree.

Tip for this Christmas Tree Theme: I love the look of solely white and wood decorations with the addition of white candle lights and a touch of glitter!

The Symons Nordmann Fir Christmas Tree is pre-lit (because why wouldn’t you?!) and has that chunky branched and freshly chopped from the snowy fields feel to it!

The White Rattan Tree Skirt also comes in a lovely grey rattan which I think would also work well for this minimalist look.

A Rattan Tree Topper is a lovely way of setting the naturalistic tone of this look.

Stoneware neutral baubles with natural string loops are very simple – love the crackle glaze!

Glittery pine cones in either silver or also lovely in the natural colourway with a bit of sparkle.

This Whitewashed Rattan Braided Tree Skirt handily comes apart for storage and is another great option.

Possibly the cutest Christmas Tree Skirt ever is this ruffle bordered burlap one (shown in photo)!

This look makes a grand statement with a big focus on layering and more layering! Lots of garland and ribbons tied to the branches, dried oranges, colourful baubles and sentimental ornaments.

Traditional Victorian Pine Pre-lit Christmas Tree with lots of branches for decorating!

Hammered Brass Christmas Tree Skirt reflects both Christmas Lights and Firelight.

Tip for this Christmas Tree Theme: More is definitely more! Use lots of colour but stick to similar tones and avoid it looking chaotic with repeated elements – add lots of bead garland, orange slices and ribbon bows.

A lovely holiday activity is drying Orange Slices in the oven, worth it for the scent alone! Have a look at how I dried mine using the Airfryer! You can then add lovely little brass hooks to them. I bought mine from Amazon here. If you are pressed for time, you can of course buy Orange Slices which have been already dried.

I also love these beautifully embroidered Orange Slice Decorations.

Gold Nutcracker Articulated Figures add the whimsy!

The Mince Pie Decorations remind me of Christmas baking with my Mum as a child, and cutting out little shapes like this for the top. They are probably my favourite Christmas decoration of all time! I also love these which have a bit more sparkle!

I’m loving these Heritage Onion Cotton Mache Baubles too.

Dark Wood Bead Garlands are quite hard to find – these add a traditional look. They do have tassels on the ends which you can leave but I would probably cut them off, they are a good price in any case.

You can buy pre-made Velvet Ribbon Bows (see this Blog post!) These lush Red Velvet Bows would look lovely. A cheaper option is to just tie velvet ribbon on the ends of branches, I love the Wine Red Ribbon pictured which also comes in a lovely Green Option.

Gifts for Dogs (and dog lovers!) — because they absolutely deserve a little something special too! I’ve put together a few favourites inspired by my own two black toy poodles, Belle and Margot, who are my constant companions. I love a long walk on the beach with them, followed by a cosy coffee stop — ideally with them looking just as stylish as I try to be. Think gingham leads, smart striped jumpers, and a floral bed so pretty it almost outshines the sofa (though let’s be honest, they’d still rather sit on me).

When I’m choosing gifts for dogs or fellow dog lovers, I like pieces that feel both thoughtful and beautiful. I want things that look good in my home but are practical too.
